Ombudsman, nagpaliwanag sa hirit na P51.468 million na Confidential Funds sa 2027

Dumipensa ang Office of the Ombudsman para sa hinihinging P51.468 million na confidential funds sa ilalim ng 2027 national budget.

Sa pagdinig sa panukalang pondo ng Ombudsman sa susunod na taon, tinukoy ni Senate Committee on Finance Chairman JV Ejercito na sa ilalim ng pamunuan ni dating Ombudsman Samuel Martires noong 2024-2025 ay nasa P1 million lang ang confidential funds na pina-realign pa sa ibang items.

Paliwanag ni Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla, mas agresibo sila ngayon sa pagsasagawa ng imbestigasyon at mangangailangan sila ng pagkalap ng mga impormasyon.

"I think we're more aggressive in pursuing investigations, Your Honor, and purchasing information and other things needed that requires confidential funds to be utilized, Your Honor", ani Remulla.

Sinabi ni Ejercito na justified naman ang hiling na confidential funds ng Ombudsman sabay tiniyak nito na ililimita lang ang confidential at intelligence funds sa mga law enforcement agencies, investigative agencies at mga isyung kaugnay sa national security.

"And definitely, as we mentioned, in this budget hearings, we will confine confidential funds only to law enforcement agencies, investigative agencies, and those connected with national security. And of course the Office of the Ombudsman, in its drive against corruption, will be one of them. And I think 54 million will be very much justified. Mababa na nga 'yan. Sa kabilang banda, sinuportahan naman ng mga senador ang naturang halaga ng confidential funds ng Office of the Ombudsman.

Para kay Senate President Win Gatchalian, kung tutuusin ay maliit lang ito sa bigat ng mga corruption cases na hinahawakan at nireresolba ng ahensya.

Sinabi naman ni at Senate President pro-tempore Tito Sotto III na maliit lang ang nasabing confidential funds kumpara sa ibang ahensya na nabigyan ng limang beses na mas mataas na confidential funds na aabot sa P125 million.

"Mr. Chairman, that should be a drop in the bucket, kung tutuusin for what the work the Ombudsman is doing. As a matter of fact, there was one office, one office of government that had 125 million five times, for confidential funds", giit ni Sotto.

Samantala, nakalusot na sa komite ang P7.232 billion na proposed 2027 budget ng Ombudsman.
